Senate Cancels Session March 16; House Still In Session, Will Hold Tuesday’s Special Elections Risking Lowest Turnouts Ever

Late Saturday, Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre) issued a statement saying they canceled session on March 16, but still plan to be in session on the 17th and 18th, at this time.
Technically, the Senate is on a 12-hour call which means members could be called back to Harrisburg with 12 hours notice.
There are 16 Senators from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties where nonessential travel has been strongly discouraged due to coronavirus concerns.
“We remain committed to working with the Governor and House Leaders to address the needs of our Commonwealth due to COVID-19.  Protecting public health continues to be our top priority.”
House
The House, at this time, is still planning to be in session.  House Speaker Turzai (R-Allegheny) also announced the special House elections in Bucks, Mercer and Westmoreland counties will go ahead as planned.
With nonessential travel now strongly discouraged in Bucks County, will voters think voting is essential and come out to a public place?  What is being risked is the lowest voter turnout ever for a House election.
